Step 1: Consultation and Assessment

Step 3: Egg Retrieval

Egg retrieval is typically quick and painless, and you can return home the same day.
 

Step 4: Sperm Collection and Fertilization
 

On the same day as the egg retrieval, the male partner provides a sperm sample. If needed, donor sperm can also be used.The collected sperm and eggs are combined in a laboratory to facilitate fertilization. There are two common methods:
 

  • Standard IVF: The eggs and sperm are placed together in a dish, allowing fertilization to occur naturally.
     

  • Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI): A single healthy sperm is injected directly into the egg, commonly used in cases of male infertility.
     

The fertilized eggs, now called embryos, are carefully monitored over the next few days to track their development.
 

Step 5: Embryo Transfer
 

After 3–5 days, the healthiest embryos are selected for transfer into the uterus. This procedure is simple and painless, involving the use of a thin catheter to place the embryo directly into the uterus.
 

Embryo transfer does not require sedation, and you can go about your daily activities soon after. Any remaining viable embryos can be frozen for future use if desired.
 

Step 6: Pregnancy Test
 

Approximately 10–14 days after the embryo transfer, a blood test is done to determine if the procedure was successful. If the test confirms pregnancy, your fertility specialist will continue monitoring the early stages of your pregnancy to ensure everything progresses smoothly.
